No. 5 CSM stays unbeaten in Bay 6 with convincing 49-14 win over No. 16 Foothill
SAN MATEO – No. 5 state-ranked College of San Mateo put together its biggest offensive game of the season on its way to a 49-14 Bay 6 League win over visiting No. 16 Foothill College on Saturday at College Heights Stadium.
The win moved CSM to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in the Bay 6.
The Bulldogs had both elements clicking as they totaled a season-high 483 yards of offense. Lolo Mataele ran for a season-best 151 yards on 14 carries with to 2 touchdowns to help lead CSM to a season-high 248 yards rushing.
Quarterback Dominic Ingrassia put together his finest game of the season as well, passing for season-bests of 200 yards and 3 TDs as he was 11 for 15 on the day with no interceptions.
The Bulldogs' defense was just as spectacular, limiting Foothill (4-2, 1-1 Bay 6) to 137 yards of offense, including just 27 yards rushing. Sherrod Smith had a pair of interceptions while Kalen Woods also picked off a pass. Odera Okaka led the defense with 6 tackles and a sack.
CSM forced Foothill to punt after the first three plays of its opening drive. Ingrassia then marched the Bulldogs downfield for a 7-play, 81-yard drive that he closed with an 18-yard TD reception to Hassan Mahasin at the 9:28 mark in the first.
Foothill broke through for a touchdown early in the second quarter, but from that point it was all San Mateo as the Bulldogs went on to score 42 unanswered points.
Ingrassia tossed a 60-yard touchdown to KB Boone-Nelson, Mataele ran in for a big 60-yard TD, and Boone-Nelson hauled in his second touchdown of the quarter for a 4-yard score to send the Bulldogs into halftime with a 28-7 lead.
Mataele opened the third quarter with a 20-yard touchdown run and Mahasin connected with backup quarterback Conner Annicharico for a 6-yard TD. Annicharico tossed his second TD of the game to Jaelin Green late in the fourth quarter to close out the Bulldogs' scoring.
Annicharico was 5 for 8 for 35 yards with 2 TDs and an interception. Boone-Nelson has his best game of the year with 4 catches for 102 yards and 2 TDs.
San Mateo will look to keep the momentum going next Saturday (Nov. 2) when they travel to rival City College of San Francisco for a Bay 6 game at 1 p.m. CCSF (2-5, 2-0 Bay 6) opened the season losing its first five games but has turned it around in league play to win both its Bay 6 games.
