No. 3 CSM wraps up Bay 6 championship with 61-7 win over Delta
SAN MATEO – No. 3 College of San Mateo totaled a season-high 581 yards of offense on its way to a 61-7 rout of visiting San Joaquin Delta College on Saturday at College Heights Stadium.
With the win, the Bulldogs wrapped up at least a share of the Bay 6 League championship with one game to play. For head coach Tim Tulloch, its his third straight Bay 6 title and seventh over the past eight seasons.
Led by 134 yards rushing on 15 carries by Lolo Mataele, CSM ran for a season-high 317 yards. Mataele's 42-yard touchdown run got the Bulldogs on the board at the 1:13 mark in the first quarter. He added a 5-yard TD run early in third quarter.
Quarterback Dominic Ingrassia put together another efficient game. He completed 13 of 19 passes for 219 yards and 3 touchdowns. Ingrassia tossed first-half TD passes to Jaelin Green (15 yards), Hassan Mahasin (25 yards), and KB Boone-Nelson (39 yards).
Nelson had a big game with 5 catches for 124 yards.
Kicker Dieter Kelly set a new CSM program record with a 52-yard field goal in the third quarter. He had tied the record with a 51-yarder earlier in the season against American River and missed a 52-yard attempt against Fresno City. Saturday's record-setting boot was his third 50+ yard field goal he's made this season.
Kelly added a 29-yard field goal midway through the fourth quarter and the Bulldogs got a 16-yard TD run from Ali Collier as well as a 1-yard touchdown plunge from Josh Stowers.
Dominique Lampkin had the big play on defense for the Bulldogs as he intercepted a Delta pass and ran it back 25 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter.
The CSM defense held its second straight opponent to just 7 points. The Bulldogs have given up 20 points or less in 7 of its 8 wins this season. Esra Funa led San Mateo with 6 tackles while John Gayer had 4 tackles and a sack. Gayer's 9.5 sacks on the season currently rank No. 3 in the state.
The Bulldogs close out the regular season on Friday (Nov. 15) with a 7 p.m. game at Laney College. A victory would give CSM an outright Bay 6 League title and No. 1 seed for the upcoming Northern California Regional Playoffs.
