RIVERSIDE – The 2023-24 College of San Mateo women's basketball season officially got underway last week with the Bulldogs' 84-52 win at Riverside City College in Day 1 of the Second Annual Title IX Classic at RCC.
CSM battled in Day 2 but came away on the losing end of an 80-76 overtime contest against No. 21 state-ranked East Los Angeles to close out the event on Saturday.
On Friday, sophomores Deanna Ayao and Jayonnah Carter had huge season debuts for the Bulldogs. Ayao poured in a career-high 27 points while Carter put up 23 points to go along with 6 rebounds and 4 steals.
Joslyn Moore posted a double-double to open the season with 11 points and a team-high 10 rebounds. And Jillian David chipped in with 7 points.
Carter had another big game in leading San Mateo in its loss to East Los Angeles. She totaled 27 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals.
Moore put up her second double-double of the week with 19 points and 16 boards while Simone Murray provided a spark off the bench with 15 points.
San Mateo, now 1-1, returns to action on Friday (Nov. 10) when they Bulldogs travel to Monterey Peninsula College for a 5 p.m. game. That is a followed by another contest on Saturday at MPC against Folsom Lake College at 12 p.m.
