CSM named No. 19 seed for Northern California Playoffs, faces Shasta in first round
A postseason run towards a state championship begins this week for the College of San Mateo women's basketball team. On Sunday, the Bulldogs were named the No. 19 seed for the upcoming Northern California Regional Playoffs.
CSM will travel to face No. 14 Shasta College in a first-round game on Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. Ticket prices for the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) postseason game at Shasta in Redding are $12 for general admission and $8 for all identified students, faculty, staff, senior citizens age 60 and over, and children under 12 years old.
The Bulldogs are making their third straight postseason appearance under head coach Michelle Warner. CSM recently wrapped up the regular season with an 18-9 overall record and finished in fourth place at 5-5 in the final Coast Conference North Division standings.
Shasta heads into the playoffs with a 13-14 overall record. The Knights finished third in the Golden Valley Conference with a 6-4 mark. San Mateo and Shasta are no strangers having already faced each other twice this season.
CSM won both matchups, defeating Shasta 44-42 in Redding on Dec. 2 and picking up a 55-43 victory at home on Dec. 16.
The winner of the contest advances to a second-round game at No. 3 College of the Sequoias (26-2) on Saturday (Feb. 25). Three wins are needed by the Bulldogs to advance to the CCCAA State Championships on March 9-12 at West Hills College Lemoore in Lemoore.
