Bio

Mike Marcial will begin his fifth year as the head coach of the College of San Mateo Men’s Basketball program in 2022. The Bulldogs recorded a 20-9 regular season record during the 2021-22 season and were ranked as high as fourteenth in the state during the regular season. CSM finished with a 9-5 conference record and placed third in the Coast-North Conference. The Bulldogs’ regular season success earned the Bulldogs a Quarter-Final Reginal CCCAA NorCal playoff appearance as the #8 Seed. The Bulldogs also racked up individual awards within the Coast-North Conference. Bobby Arenas, Pearse Uniacke, and Sam Manu earned First-Team honors, and Desai Lopez was awarded All-Defensive Team. Uniacke also garnered All-Freshmen Team recognition. 

Due to COVID-19, the 2020-2021 season was suspended across the state.

After a 36-year hiatus, the College of San Mateo Men’s Basketball program took the floor for the Bulldogs during the 2019-2020 season. Marcial led the Bulldogs to a 14-14 overall regular-season record and the program’s first-ever CCCAA Northern California playoff berth. The Bulldogs finished in third place in the Coast-North Conference, beat two state-ranked teams, and finished in the state’s top ten in transition points during the regular season. Bobby Arenas and Jackie Luong were awarded First-Team Conference awards for the Bulldogs. 

Marcial came to CSM in the summer of 2018 after completing four seasons as the Associate Head Coach for Bellevue University located in Bellevue, Nebraska. During his tenure at Bellevue from 2014-2018, Marcial was the program’s recruiting coordinator, offensive coordinator, academic coordinator, and strength and conditioning coach. He also assisted with on-floor coaching, scouting, player development, and offseason workouts. During his time at Bellevue, the Bruins won four straight conference championships, appeared in four consecutive NAIA national tournaments, won two conference tournament championships, and made a run to the 2017 NAIA Final Four.

The Clovis, California native previously coached at Fresno City College before his stint at Bellevue and helped guide the Rams to two successive Central Valley Conference titles, two CCCAA Northern California berths, and an Elite Eight appearance in 2014. While on staff at Fresno City, the Rams accumulated an overall record of 54-10.

Prior to his two-year return to Fresno, Marcial spent the 2011-2012 season at Lassen College in Susanville, California as the head assistant coach, and in 2010-2011 he was the video coordinator at his alma mater, Sacramento State.

Marcial received his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Sacramento State and attained his master’s in kinesiology from Fresno Pacific University in 2012.
