Academics
Preparing athletes for a lifetime.
CSM Transfer Statistics
The main purpose of College of San Mateo's football program is help develop our athletes in the classroom so that they may continue their education at the next level. Over the past five years, more than 90 percent of CSM's football players have either completed their AA degree and/or transferred to four-year institutions.
Academic Game Planning
All football players will take part in a class that is taught by Coach Pollack and emphasizes the fundamentals, skills and techniques required to be successful in the classroom. The class focuses on the following:
- organizational skills such as long-term planning and time management
- effective note taking skills and preparation for quizzes and tests
- attitude development while building self-esteem
Transfer Agreements with CSU & UC Schools
College of San Mateo's transfer rates are among the highest in the state. CSM also has transfer agreements to many UC and CSU campuses, whereby students are guaranteed admission to these schools upon successfully completing each institution's transfer requirements.
Full-Time Academic Counselor Devoted to Student Athletes
The football program has an academic advisor that is dedicated to working exclusively with student athletes in the football program. This emphasizes our commitment to ensure that athletes are in the correct classes, understand what they need to do to graduate and have the availability of a great resource for questions and assistance with academic matters.
Study Table
Players are required to spend three hours a week in study table. Study table is part of the "academic game plan." This is where the athletes work on the skills they were taught in class, including note taking, test preparation and time management.
Free Tutoring for Student Athletes
Tutoring centers are available on campus eight hours a day for student-athletes to drop in and get help in a variety of subjects. The best part is that tutoring facilities are proctored by teachers, not students.
Mapping Out the Academic Plan
Begin with the end in mind. Every student-athlete, upon registration at CSM, will be provided with a degree checklist with every class that the athlete must take to complete his AA degree. This checklist is reviewed three times a semester with the athlete and the academic advisor.
Attendance Checks
Half the battle is showing up! CSM football coaches check on player attendance daily. Failure to attend class is met with consequences.
Top Notch Instructors
Players will be instructed by an all-star team of instructors. All of the instructors have completed their master's degrees and many hold doctoral degrees in their disciplines.
