Bio

Neiko is a Bay Area native and a baseball lifer. His combination of knowledge, positivity, and youthfulness are unmatched. He has brought a fun, inclusive and winning culture to programs in SF, Austria, Hungary as well as privately coaching some of the best baseball talent in the SF Bay Area.

Coach Sigona attended St. Francis High School. After high school, he played at St. Martin’s University in Washington. He then transferred to Holy Names University, and eventually University of San Francisco.

Neiko began his coaching career locally in travel baseball in San Francisco from 2014-2020 before taking his love for the sport abroad to Europe as part of Baseball Jobs Overseas. This program takes dedicated baseball players to Europe to be player-coaches in their top levels of baseball in countries that are still new to the American pastime. His first stop was in Schwaz, Austria where he led his team to a spirited second half comeback with only 1 loss during his 2 months of coaching. This job set him up for a similar position in Debrecen, Hungary to coach a local club, while also helping coach the Hungarian National Team practices for the Men’s, u23 and u12 teams.

While in Eastern Hungary, Neiko honed his baseball coaching skills while leading practices with very few English speaking players. There he learned to use positive body language, hand signals and other non-verbal ways to communicate with his players. This momentum carried into the summer at the National team tournaments where the Hungarians had their most successful European summer in their history. Neiko was an Assistant Coach, Hitting coach and first base coach for the Men’s and u23 teams that placed first and third respectively.

Neiko joins the College of San Mateo coaching staff for the 2024 season. He is the outfield, hitting and first base coach while also being an integral part of the Bulldog Baseball recruiting efforts.
