CSM's Aniyah Hall named CCCWVCA State Player of the Week
Two NorCal middle blockers in College of San Mateo's Aniyah Hall and Solano's Jada Cuffie along with Cerritos right side hitter/setter Sydney May are this week's CCCWVCA State Players of the Week #9.
May, a 5-foot-11 sophomore transfer who started last year at NCAA Division III UC Santa Cruz, is a product of Los Alamitos High and is the daughter of Cerritos men's basketball head coach Russ May.
Last week, she was instrumental in helping the Falcons upset previously undefeated Long Beach as she pounded 17 kills, set 19 assists, made nine digs and served two aces. She added 10 kills and seven assists, playing just two sets in a sweep over LA Harbor.
A 6-3 sophomore from Sequoia High in Redwood City, Hall hit to near perfection in two San Mateo wins. Hall landed 12 kills in 18 attempts (one error) to hit .611 with two blocks in a sweep over San Jose City, then ripped 13 kills in just 16 swings (.812) with two blocks in another Bulldods sweep of Skyline. Hall is second in the state in hitting percentage at .488.
Cuffie, a 5-11 freshman from Vanden High (raised in Vacaville), also was efficient in two Solano sweeps. Against Los Medanos, she pounded 12 kills in 21 attempts (one error, hit .524) and made three solo blocks. She followed that with 12 kills in 16 swings (.625) v. Napa Valley.
