CSM closes season-opening Delta tournament with win over Modesto
STOCKTON – The College of San Mateo women's basketball team went 1-2 over the weekend to open the 2024-25 season at the Jocelyn Mancebo Classic at San Joaquin Delta College.
After a pair of losses to open the event, the Bulldogs picked up their first win by beating Modesto Junior College 77-57 on Sunday.
Sophomore Simone Murray had a solid all-around game to help lead the Bulldogs to the win. She had a team-high 16 points and added 8 rebounds as well as 4 steals.
Chozen Horn-Young added 14 points and 6 rebounds. Marie Palu Jill David both came up just short of a double-double as Horn-Young posted 9 points with a team-leading 12 rebounds and David totaled 11 points and 9 boards.
The Bulldogs opened the tourney and their season on Friday with a 77-60 loss to Fresno City College. Horn-Young had a huge debut with a team-high 23 points. Palu added 13 points and 6 rebounds.
Saturday saw CSM fall 66-47 to Cerro Coso on Day 2. Murray totaled 19 points and 6 steals while Palu chipped in with 9 points.
San Mateo, now 1-2 overall, is back in action next weekend (Nov. 8-9) when it will play a pair of games at Folsom Lake College. The Bulldogs are set to face Shasta College on Friday at 3 p.m. and will take on Butte College on Saturday at 11 a.m.
