Kinder's walk-off sends CSM to state championship semifinals
3C2A STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS TOURNEY CENTRAL
SARATOGA, Calif – An Emma Kinder walk-off single advances San Mateo through to the winner's game as the Bulldogs remain perfect with the 3-2 victory over Orange Coast.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The teams went scoreless through the first two innings of the game. The Bulldogs broke through first in the bottom of the third on a Katie Johnson single.
Orange Coast tied it back up in the top of the fourth. Facing Nohemi Livingston – who was dominant over Palomar a day ago and picked up her second win of the tournament today – the Pirates mounted a nine-hit performance. Reyna Hernandez picked up an RBI single to tie it.
Each time the Bulldogs scored, the Pirates followed with runs of their own. Daniella Simon broke through for CSM in the sixth with an RBI single, but like clock work, Orange Coast tied it in the seventh to force extras after Kelsy McNair ripped an RBI double.
The Bulldog's rally in the eighth forced a pitching change to Kelsy McNair, who was lights-out a day ago to beat Modesto, but the first batter she faced in Kinder wasted no time, hitting the game-winning single.
UP NEXT
San Mateo gets the night off and will return to Viking Field to face the winner of the West Valley Yuba game on Saturday at noon tomorrow.
Orange Coast moves into the loser's bracket and will face the winner of the Cypress, El Camino game at 8 p.m. at Viking Field.
