CSM named No. 2 seed for Northern California Regionals, host No. 15 Merced
The 2024 state championship run for the College of San Mateo softball teams begins later this week.
On Sunday, CSM received the No. 2 seed for the upcoming 2024 Northern California Regional Playoffs. The Bulldogs are set to host No. 15 Merced College in a best-of-three-game series that is scheduled to begin on Friday (May 3) at 2:00 p.m. Game 2 is set for Saturday (May 4) at 12 p.m. with a third game, if necessary, to start at 2 p.m.
Ticket prices for the California Community College Athletic Association (3C2A) postseason event at CSM are $12 for general admission and $8 for all identified students, faculty, staff, senior citizens age 60 and over, and children under 12 years old. The Bulldogs recently wrapped up their fifth straight Coast Conference softball championship under head coach Nicole Quigley-Borg with an impressive 12-2 mark. CSM enters the postseason with a 33-5 overall record.
2024 marks the 17th straight season the Bulldogs have reached the playoffs under Quigley-Borg.
No. 15 Merced put together solid season, finishing in third place in the Central Valley Conference at 12-6. The Blue Devils bring a 22-16 overall record into this weekend's playoff series.
San Mateo and Merced have already met twice this season. On Feb. 13, the Bulldogs swept a non-conference doubleheader at home. CSM edged Merced 4-3 in the opening game and unloaded for a 12-0, five-inning victory in the finale.
The winner of the opening series will advance to the Super Regionals on May 10-12. The Bulldogs are looking to return to the state championships for the 10th straight season. The 3C2A State Championships are scheduled for May 16-19 at West Valley College in Saratoga.
