Bulldogs cruise to 9-0 win at Monterey Peninsula; hold No. 1 spot in state rankings
MONTEREY – Ari Williams went 3 for 4 with 3 RBI while Kennedie Magorian tossed 4 shutout innings to help lead No. 1 state-ranked College of San Mateo to a 9-0, five-inning win at Monterey Peninsula College on Thursday.
San Mateo totaled 14 hits in Thursday's contest at MPC. Emma Kinder went a perfect 4 for 4, Izzy Cowne was 3 for 3 with a pair of doubles, while Luda Gumataotao (2 for 3) and Ariana Montiel (2 for 3) also knocked in a pair of runs with 2 hits each.
Magorian struck out 6 batters and didn't allow a hit over 4 innings. Siona Halwani closed out the contest with a scoreless fifth inning.
Since having their 24-game winning streak snapped, the Bulldogs won their third straight to improve to 27-2 overall and 8-1 in Coast Conference play. It was CSM's second straight 9-0 mercy-rule victory after beating Chabot College on Tuesday in six innings.
3CFCA STATE RANKINGS
Despite a narrow 2-1 loss on March 18 against West Valley College, the Bulldogs retained the No. 1 spot in the most recent California Community College Fastpitch Coaches Association (3CFCA) Coaches Poll released on March 20.
San Mateo is followed by No. 2 Palomar, No. 3 Cypress, No. 4 Fullerton, and No. 5 Cosumnes River.
