No. 6 Bulldogs hammer Hartnell 17-0 in five innings
SAN MATEO – No. 5 state-ranked College of San Mateo won its sixth straight game, handing visiting Hartnell College a 17-0 Coast Conference loss on Thursday.
After taking a 3-0 lead after the first inning, the game got ugly in the second. Lafulafu Malepeai smacked a solo home run with one out to get CSM on the board. Hartnell quickly recorded the second out but the Bulldogs went on to score 10 more times in the frame.
CSM sent 15 batters to the plate, collected eight hits, walked twice, and was hit by a pitch. Luda Gumataotao knocked in four runs in the inning, hitting a RBI-double and a bases-clearing double.
Gumataotao ended 2 for 3 with 5 RBI while Malepeai was a perfect 3 for 3 with 4 RBI. Tori Cortez and Mariah Norris both went 2 for 3 with 2 RBI, Gabrielle Perez drove in 2 runs while Isabella Cowne and Megan Barstad both had 2 hits.
In the circle, Cortez (3 innings, 1 hit) and Jessica Agosti (2 innings) combined for the one-hit shutout.
CSM improved to 20-3 overall and 4-0 in Coast Conference play. The Bulldogs are back in action on Saturday (Mar. 18) when they host No. 11 Cosumnes River College (10:00 am) and No. 17 Fresno City College (2:00 pm) in a pair of non-conference games.
