San Mateo wins three at Diablo Valley tournament
PLEASANT HILL – The College of San Mateo men's water polo team compiled a 3-2 record over the weekend at the Jack Flanagan Invitational. The two-day event was hosted by Diablo Valley College.
CSM opened the tournament on Friday with a 24-9 win over Las Positas College. But that was followed by a tough 22-11 loss to host Diablo Valley.
Saturday saw the Bulldogs open with a narrow 15-14 loss to Cabrillo College. But CSM closed the tourney by winning its last two games, beating San Joaquin Delta College and Santa Rosa Junior College by identical 18-13 final scores.
Freshman Sean Coffin led the Bulldogs offense, scoring 21 goals over the five games. He tied a season-high with six goals in the rout of Las Positas and added five goals in the win over Santa Rosa.
Coffin currently leads CSM in scoring with 36 goals this season.
Sophomore David Silvestre also has a solid weekend, contributing 12 goals over the five contests while sophomore Roman Brush added eight goals. Silvestre had a season-best four goals against Santa Rosa and Brush tied a season-high with four goals vs. Las Positas.
CSM is now 6-4 overall. The Bulldogs return to the pool on Wednesday (Sep. 24) when they travel to Las Positas for a 3 p.m. Coast Conference game.
