Bulldogs men’s water polo shows growth during 2024 season
SAN MATEO – In just the second season back since relaunching the men's water polo program, College of San Mateo head coach Andrew Silva continues to be impressed by the improvements made by his student-athletes.
The Bulldogs closed out the 2024 season with a 2-12 overall record and finished tied for fifth place in the Coast Conference at 1-4.
Standouts from the 2024 squad included freshman Roman Brush (1st Team), sophomore Justin McClure (2nd Team), and freshman Olin Gawel (Honorable Mention). The trio earned All-Coast Conference honors for the Bulldogs.
The 2024 squad had just three returners from last season and 11 newcomers. Silva hopes the experience gained by the freshmen will help translate into success next year.
"The men's water polo program showed a great deal of growth and development during their 2024 season," said Silva. "Practices were focused and competitive, and the team showed a lot of fight in each and every one of their games. We were more competitive in our contests than the final scores reflected, and we're playing our best water polo of the year towards the end of the season.
"Restarting a program simply takes time, and I couldn't be happier with the progress this group made in moving our program forward."
