Bio

Mike Marcial will begin his 7th year as the head coach of the College of San Mateo Men’s Basketball program in 2024.

After a 36-year hiatus, the College of San Mateo Men’s Basketball program took the floor for the Bulldogs during the 2019-2020 season. Marcial led the Bulldogs to a 14-14 overall regular-season record and to a CCCAA Northern California Regional playoff berth. The Bulldogs finished third place in the Coast-North Conference, beat two state-ranked teams, and finished in the state’s top ten in transition points during the regular season.

Following the Bulldogs’ first season back into CCCAA competition, Marcial’s Bulldogs have won 53% of their games throughout each of their four competitive seasons, finished third place in the Coast-North Conference three out of four years, and secured CCCAA NorCal Regional Playoff berths each year. Additionally, Marcial has mentored 10 All-Conference Coast-North Selections, three Academic All-State awardees, 15 AA Degree Graduates, and matriculated 15 CSM Bulldogs. 10 former CSM Bulldogs have received athletic scholarships to all levels of four-year basketball, from NCAA Division 1 to NAIA; seven Bulldogs will suit up for four-year institutions during the 2024-25 season.

Marcial came to CSM in the summer of 2018 after completing four seasons as the Associate Head Coach for Bellevue University located in Bellevue, Nebraska. During his tenure at Bellevue from 2014-2018, Marcial was the program’s recruiting coordinator, offensive coordinator, academic coordinator, and strength and conditioning coach. He also assisted with on-floor coaching, scouting, player development, and offseason workouts. During his time at Bellevue, the Bruins won four straight conference championships, appeared in four consecutive NAIA national tournaments, won two conference tournament championships, and made a run to the 2017 NAIA Final Four.

The Clovis, California native previously coached at Fresno City College before his stint at Bellevue and helped guide the Rams to two successive Central Valley Conference titles, two CCCAA Northern California berths, and an Elite Eight appearance in 2014. While on staff at Fresno City, the Rams accumulated an overall record of 54-10.

Prior to his two-year return to Fresno, Marcial spent the 2011-2012 season at Lassen College in Susanville, California as the head assistant coach, and in 2010-2011 he was the video coordinator at his alma mater, Sacramento State.

Marcial received his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Sacramento State and attained his master’s in kinesiology from Fresno Pacific University in 2012.
