FREMONT – The 2025-26 College of San Mateo men's basketball season got off to a solid start with the Bulldogs winning both its games at the season-opening Ohlone Classic.
CSM got the season started on Friday with a 94-71 victory over Orange Coast College and wrapped up the weekend with an 86-64 win against Shasta College on Saturday.
Sophomore Keshawn Johnson totaled 39 points and 17 rebounds while sophomore Jeremy Pierro had 40 points and 9 rebounds over the two games.
Game 1: San Mateo 94, Orange Coast 71
Johnson led the Bulldogs with 27 points and 8 rebounds their opening-day win over Orange Coast. Pierro came through with 23 points. Sophomore Wilson Tran contributed 18 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, and a pair of steals in a solid season debut.
Game 2: San Mateo 86, Shasta 64
CSM had five score in double digits in the rout of Shasta. Pierro and sophomore Elijah Newsome both led with 17 points each with Pierro adding 6 rebounds and 4 assists.
Freshman Ben Liang totaled 14 points and 5 assists while sophomore DeMarcus Collins and Johnson both had 12 points. Johnson nearly had a double-double but came up just short with 9 rebounds.
San Mateo, now 2-0 overall, is back in action on Friday (Nov. 7) when the Bulldogs travel to Santa Rosa Junior College for a 7 p.m. non-conference game.
