
CSM wins Super Regionals opener, faces top-seeded Fresno City on Friday
FRESNO – No. 2 seeded College of San Mateo rallied for five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, which proved to the be difference, in an 8-5 victory over No. 3 College of Marin on Thursday in an opening-round game of the Northern California Playoffs Super Regionals. The three-team, double-elimination event is hosted by No. 1 Fresno City College.
The Bulldogs sent nine batters to the plate in the fifth, collecting three hits while taking advantage of a pair of Marin errors, a hit batter, and a wild pitch.
Earlier in the contest, Dylan Hillman smashed a three-run home run in the bottom of the first to erase a two-run Marin lead. Hillman drove in four runs on the day, adding a sacrifice fly in the fifth.
Luke Ulrich tossed five innings of scoreless relief and allowed just four hits on his way to earning the win. Braden Agosta got the final two outs of the contest for the save.
CSM, now 28-14 overall, will take on host Fresno City (34-7) on Friday (May 9) at 1 p.m. Fresno City cruised to a 12-3 win over Marin on Thursday night to eliminate the Mariners and move on.
