SAN MATEO – The 2025 College of San Mateo baseball season got off to a tough start as the Bulldogs came up just short in a 2-1 loss to visiting Laney College on Friday afternoon.
Four CSM pitchers combined for a solid opening-day outing but the Bulldogs' offense managed just three hits.
Laney opened the contest with a run off starter Corbin Giesen. But that would be all he would allow as he went on to toss three scoreless frames while giving up just a pair of hits. Laney scored what proved to be the game-winning run in the top of seventh.
San Mateo came through with its lone run in the bottom of the eighth. Jeremy Wrona drew a two-out walk and came in to score on a triple by Dylan Hillman. But Hillman was stranded on third as the potential tying run.
CSM will look to pick up its first win on Tuesday (Jan. 28) when the Bulldogs travel to College of Marin for a 1:30 p.m. non-conference game.
