Bulldogs knock off defending state champ Feather River

SAM MATEO – Sophomore Olivia Harrison led College of San Mateo with 12 kills and 6 blocks to help lead the Bulldogs to an emotional five-set victory over visiting Feather River College on Friday.

Feather River captured the 2022 state championship and eliminated CSM from its first-ever trip to the state tournament in last season's semifinals.

But San Mateo was able to bounce back from a tough five-set loss to American River College earlier in the week and had to overcome a 2-1 deficit against Feather River. CSM won the match by scores of 23-25, 25-23, 11-25, 25-10, 15-10.

The Bulldogs got contributions from all over the court. Nunu Saulala posted 11 kills, Olivia Cooper had 7 kills, and Aniyah Hall chipped in with 6 kills.

Emeli Muagututia had a team-high 27 assists to go with 20 digs while Alexa Rentar matched her with 20 digs as well. Madison Low had a good all-around match with 4 kills, 5 aces, 10 digs, and a block.

The Bulldogs evened their record at 1-1 overall. They are back in action on Tuesday (Sep. 5) to host Sierra College in a non-conference match.
