CSM dominant in opening-day sweeps of Cosumnes River, Los Medanos

SAN MATEO – Opening day couldn't come soon enough for head coach Katie Goldhahn and the College of San Mateo women's volleyball team.

Hosting Cosumnes River College and Los Medanos College on Wednesday, the Bulldogs made quick work of them in both matches by earning sweeps to begin the 2022 season. CSM got things started with a 31-29, 25-20, 25-17 victory over Cosumnes River and wrapped up the action with a 25-15, 25-6, 25-19 win against Los Medanos.

Sophomore outside hitter Naomie Cremoux put together a huge day as she totaled a team-high 21 kills and six aces over the two matches while sophomore setter Angelina Estrada posted 61 assists.

After beating CRC by a final score of 31-29 in a marathon opening set, momentum proved to be on the side of the Bulldogs as they were able to complete the sweep.

Cremoux, sophomore middle blocker Valerie Bruk, and freshman outside hitter Tui Saluni provided the majority of the offense as they each totaled 12 kills.

Estrada had 40 assists to go along with eight digs while sophomore middle blocker Grace Thayer added six kills and freshman libero Ashley Chacon chipped in with eight digs.

The Bulldogs had a much easier time against Los Medanos, which included a dominant 25-6 win in the second set.

Cremoux once again led CSM with nine kills, Saluni added seven kills, and Estrada totaled 21 assists.

CSM, now 2-0, returns to action on Friday (Sep. 2) at 2 p.m. when the Bulldogs host 2021 state championship semifinalist Feather River College in a non-conference match.
