Bulldogs extend winning streak to 22 games; hold top spot in state rankings

SAN JOSE – Megan Barstad went 2 for 4 with a home run and 4 RBI while Siona Halwani allowed just 3 hits over a seven-inning shutout to help lead No. 1 state-ranked College of San Mateo to a 6-0 Coast Conference win at No. 5 San Jose City College on Tuesday.

The Bulldogs haven't loss since their season opener back on Jan. 26 as their winning streak is now at 22 games. Of those 22 victories, 13 have been shutouts. CSM improved to 22-1 overall and 4-0 in conference play.

Barstad smashed a two-run home run in the top of the third inning and followed that with a two-run single in the fourth.

Michelle Hara was 2 for 4 with a two-run single in the second inning that got San Mateo on the board.

Halwani improved to 10-0 on the season after the win in the circle. She struck out 5 and walked 2 in tossing her second complete game of the year.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Thursday (March 14) when they travel to Salinas to take on Hartnell College at 3 p.m. CSM is back home on Friday (March 15) to host College of the Redwoods at 11 a.m.

3CFCA STATE RANKINGS

Thanks to the unprecedented hot streak, CSM continues to hold to No. 1 spot in the California Community College Fastpitch Coaches Association (3CFCA) State Rankings that were released on March 7.

San Mateo is followed by No. 2 Cypress, No. 3 Palomar, No. 4 West Valley, and No. 5 San Jose City.

The next state rankings are set to be released on March 20.
