Bulldogs go 2-1 to open 2024 season in Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD – The 2024 College of San Mateo softball season is officially underway after the Bulldogs went 2-1 over a three-game stretch in Bakersfield.

CSM wasted little time in facing one of the top programs in the state in its season-opener on Friday and came out on the losing end of a 4-0 contest against Mt. San Antonio College. But the Bulldogs were able to bounce back in Saturday, picking up a 6-1 win over Santiago Canyon College and a 4-1 triumph over host Bakersfield College to close out the weekend.

After being held scoreless by the Mounties on Friday, the San Mateo offense finally got things going against Santiago Canyon.

Ari Williams led CSM at the plate, going 3 for 3 with 3 RBI. She smashed a two-run home run in the top of the fifth and added an RBI-single in the sixth to close out the Bulldogs' scoring.

Nohemi Livingston delivered an RBI-double in the first and Izzy Cowne had 2 hits.

Livingston earned the win in the circle, allowing no runs and just 1 hit over 5 innings.

That was followed by win over Bakersfield. San Mateo totaled only 5 hits in the contest but came through when the offense came through when needed most.

Cowne knocked in a pair of runs while Ava Mendoza smacked an RBI-triple in the fourth.

Siona Halwani picked up the victory, giving up 1 run and 4 hits over 5 innings. Kennedie Magorian tossed a pair of scoreless innings to close out the win.

CSM will look to keep the momentum going on Thursday (Feb. 1) when the Bulldogs host Sacramento City College in a doubleheader. Game 1 is set to begin at noon.
