College of San Mateo's state championship title defense officially gets underway next weekend.

On Sunday, CSM received the No. 2 seed for the upcoming 2023 Northern California Regional Playoffs. The Bulldogs are set to host No. 15 Santa Rosa Junior College in a best-of-three-game series that is scheduled to begin on Friday (May 5) at 2:00 p.m. Game 2 is set for Saturday at 12 p.m. with a third game, if necessary, to start at 2 p.m.

The Bulldogs recently wrapped up their fourth straight Coast Conference softball championship under head coach Nicole Quigley-Borg with a nearly-perfect 13-1 mark. CSM enters the postseason on a seven-game winning streak and is 33-6 overall.

Santa Rosa returns to the postseason despite a sub-.500 overall record. The Bear Cubs closed out the regular season at 17-21 and finished tied for fifth place in the Big 8 Conference with an 11-13 record.

This weekend will mark the second meeting of the season between the two squads. On Feb. 4, the Bulldogs banged out 11 hits in a 9-0, six-inning victory over Santa Rosa in San Mateo.

The winner of the opening series will advance to the Super Regionals on May 12-13. The Bulldogs are looking to make their return to the state championships that are scheduled for May 18-21 at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut.
