SAN MATEO – No. 4 state-ranked College of San Mateo extended its winning streak to five games after a pair of non-conference victories at home on Saturday. CSM needed just six innings to defeat College of the Redwoods 10-1 and followed that with a 6-1 win over No. 20 American River College.
Since dropping a narrow 4-3 contest to now No. 1 Sierra College on Feb. 11, the Bulldogs have outscored their opponents by a 40-5 margin during the recent five-game surge.
Gabrielle Perez went 2 for 2 with a pair of doubles and 2 RBI and Hailey Meisenbach also drove in a pair runs with a 2 for 3 effort at the plate to lead CSM against Redwoods. Siona Halwani struck out six batters, allowing just 3 hits and the lone run to earn the complete-game victory.
CSM terrorized Redwoods on the base paths, totaling 11 steals in the contest.
Luda Gumatatao sparked the Bulldogs' offense against American River. She smashed a two-run home run to break a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the fifth and added an RBI-single to close out a three-run, sixth-inning rally.
Gumataotao went 2 for 3 with 3 RBI while Michelle Hara drove in a pair of runs by going 2 for 4. Isabella Cowne also had a big game at the plate, going a perfect 4 for 4 with a double while scoring twice.
Lia Evans (5 innings) and Tori Cortez (2 innings) combined for the win in the circle. Evans picked up the victory, allowing a run and 4 hits while Cortez closed it out with two scoreless frames.
CSM improved to 12-2 overall and is back in action on Thursday when it opens Coast Conference play at Chabot College on Thursday (Feb. 23) at 3 p.m.
