Assemblymember Diane Papan and Senator Josh Becker Honor College of San Mateo Bulldogs Football Team for the 2024 Championship Season

SACRAMENTO – Today, Assemblymember Diane Papan (D-San Mateo) and State Senator Josh Becker (D-Menlo Park) recognized the College of San Mateo (CSM) Bulldogs football team for their outstanding 2024 championship season on the floors of both the Assembly and Senate Chambers. The Bulldogs secured their second state and national title in three years with a dominant 43-11 victory over Mount San Antonio College on December 14, 2024.

"The Bulldogs' remarkable achievement is a testament to their resilience, hard work, and dedication both on and off the field," said Assemblymember Papan. "This team embodies excellence—not only in athletics but in academics and community service as well. They are champions in every sense of the word."

Under the leadership of Head Coach Tim Tulloch, the Bulldogs have built more than just a winning football program. They have fostered a culture of academic success, personal growth, and community engagement. The team's holistic approach to development, highlighted through initiatives like the Built for Life curriculum, ensures student-athletes gain skills in professional development, financial literacy, and goal setting, preparing them for success beyond football.

"The CSM Bulldogs represent the best of college athletics—commitment, discipline, and a drive to be great in every aspect of life," said Senator Becker. "Their success on the field is matched by their achievements in the classroom and their dedication to the San Mateo community. It's an honor to celebrate their championship season."

CSM's dedication to academic excellence is evident in programs such as Writing in the End Zone and Math in the End Zone, which provide critical support to student-athletes. This past season,

the Bulldogs maintained an overall team GPA of 3.43, with 94 players earning a GPA of 3.0 or higher and 16 achieving a perfect 4.0.

"This championship is a reflection of the relentless effort and dedication of our players, coaching staff, and everyone who supports this program," said Head Coach Tim Tulloch. "But more importantly, it's about the young men who leave here prepared to succeed—not just in football, but in life."

Beyond academics and athletics, the Bulldogs remain committed to serving their community. Through initiatives such as Be the Match cancer donor drives, partnerships with Second Harvest food bank, and participation in Literacy Week at local elementary schools, these student-athletes have demonstrated their commitment to making a difference.

"CSM's football program is an innovative model of student success," said San Mateo County Community College District Chancellor Melissa Moreno. "These athletes are not only winning championships but winning in life. Each of these football players can tell a story of transformation that, without this program, would not have occurred. We are so proud of our students and the faculty and staff that support them on and off the field."
