Bulldogs rally in second half for 37-20 win at Modesto

MODESTO – College of San Mateo scored 30 second-half points to erase a 14-7 halftime deficit to win at Modesto Junior College by a final score of 37-20 on Saturday.

With the win, the defending state champion Bulldogs improved to 3-0.

CSM's offense totaled 619 yards but had three drives stall in the third quarter that led to field goals by Caleb Ojeda. He made consecutive kicks from 30, 46, and 26 yards to put the Bulldogs back out in front for good at 16-14 late in the third.

Quarterback Anthony Grisby ran in from two yards out for a touchdown in the fourth and iced the Bulldogs' victory with a 50-yard TD pass to Nate Sanchez with 2:37 left to play.

Grigsby threw for 436 yards on 21 of 34 passing with a TD and interception. Terence Loville led CMS receivers with 7 catches for 166 yards.

Sanchez led San Mateo on the ground with 11 rushes for 100 yards and a TD. Julius Tikoisuva scored in the first quarter on a 5-yard touchdown run to get CSM on the board.

On defense, Malakai Hoeft led the Bulldogs with 10 tackles while Malini Ti'a had 8 tackles and an interception.

CSM will look to continue its unbeaten start to the season next Saturday (Sep. 23) when the Bulldogs host American River College in a 1 p.m. non-league game.
