Bulldogs drop opening game of Skyline series

SAN BRUNO – Keoni Coloma smashed a solo home run but that would be all the offense for College of San Mateo in a 4-1 loss at Skyline College on Tuesday in the opening-game of a three-game Coast Conference series.

The Bulldogs had their chances but stranded 10 runners on base, including leaving the bases full in the top of the ninth inning. CSM totaled six hits but tied a season-high with 11 strikeouts.

Noel Valdez but together a solid starting effort despite taking the loss. He went five innings and allowed all four runs and seven hits. Valdez struck out four and walked four.

Nick Gonsalves did all he could to keep the Bulldogs in the game. He tossed the final three innings, surrendering just a walk while striking out five.

The loss dropped CSM to 21-8 overall and 5-5 in Coast Conference play. The series continues on Thursday (Apr. 6) when the Bulldogs host the Trojans at 2:30 p.m. The set concludes on Saturday (Apr. 8) back at Skyline at 1 p.m.
